Much like all the other days for the past couple weeks, I'll be highlighting a player from Team USA and Team Canada in the upcoming Vancouver Olympics. Today's player from Team Canada and a kid that will one day be the foundation of the LA Kings' blue line: Drew Doughty.
Drew's cards, and those of other players, can be purchased through checkoutmycards.com and sportsbuy.com. The pictures of the cards will take you to COMC and the links will bring you to sportsbuy.
Why he will succeed: Currently one of the top, hard hitting, goal scoring defenseman for the Los Angeles Kings. He attended Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota, and won the U.S. National Championships in 2002-03 as a sophomore. He played 2 years at the University of Michigan in the CCHA. After his sophomore year at U of M he was named the CCHA Offensive Defenseman of the year.
Drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 1st Round, third overall, in 2005. But being unable to sign Johnson, due to his commitment to attend school and play at U of M, the Carolina Hurricanes traded Jack to LA for Tim Gleason and Eric Belanger. In 2006 he was named to the World Junior Championship All Star Team. He played his first NHL game on March 29, 2007, and scored his first NHL goal against Roberto Luongo on October 10, 2007.
Below are a couple videos and cards that are worth picking up through Checkoutmycards and Sportsbuy.
